Imbil State Forest and Conondale NP

Meeting Point: I suggest people make their own way to the venue. Alternatively, some people may choose to travel up on the Thursday. If anyone is unsure about travel directions, please contact me.

Meeting Time: Leave Toowoomba no later than 7.00am

Travel Distance and Time: Driving distance to Charlie Moreland campground is about 228km, which will take about 3 hours. From Toowoomba travel to Melaney, then towards Kenilworth. About 6 kilometres south of Kenilworth, cross Little Yabba Creek then immediately turn left onto Sunday Ck Road and travel 5 klms to the campground.

Walk distances, times and ratings: There are several track walks of various lengths within both Imbil State Forest and Conondale NP. They vary in length from less than a kilometre to about 11 kilometres, and some of these will form part of the weekend’s walking agenda. I am also keen to visit Summer Ck which will incorporate some off-track walking. Member Jungle will be updated prior to the weekend with more specific details of the planned walks.

General Information:

We’re camping at the large Charlie Moreland Campground (suitable for all types of accommodation and accessible to conventional vehicles), on the bank of Little Yabba Ck, with fireplaces & toilets (but no showers). Imbil State Forest includes areas of luxuriant rainforest, tall eucalypt forest, mosaics of plantation forest and boulder strewn creeks which makes for spectacular scenery.

There is no drinking water available at the campground, so please ensure you bring adequate for the weekend. Bring firewood as well if you have any.

Please book your campsite through the National Parks website as usual. I will most probably go down on the Thursday, however for those that can’t come until Friday, I suggest leaving town by 7.00am. Once people are set up, we will head off for the day’s walking.
