Meeting Time: 6:15am Saturday, for 6:30am departure

Meeting Place: Toowoomba Plaza car park, beside Aust Post, 330 Stenner St, Kearneys Spring

Travel Distance & Time: 230km round trip

Walk Distance: 9.3 km (4 hrs)

General Information: Heavy rain prior to the walk may require cancellation or an alternate option.

I want an early start as the car park at the start of the walk may fill quickly. We will drive about 2 hours to Northbrook Gorge going via the Warrego Hwy and left into Forest Hill Fernvale Rd, then across to Lowood & Fernvale. We will be parking in the Northbrook Gorge Parking (google maps), which is past the Cedars day use area, on Northbrook Parkway. I plan on doing a circuit, so no need for a car shuffle.

Walk Rating: S55

Distance: Under 10 km.

Terrain: Minor scrub, rainforest, rock hopping, scrambling, swimming.

Fitness: Medium, reasonable fitness required.

Walk Information: (By David Brownsey)

The walk begins with a steep downhill to Northbrook Creek. We then follow the creek along, going through several swim-through pools and meandering in and out of the creek, to eventually end up back on the road below the car park. Be prepared for rock-hopping, wading, and wet feet so don't wear your good boots or bring a change of footwear for the creek walk. The swim-throughs are mandatory and about 10-20m only. Bring a waterproof bag for your pack and good sandals or sandshoes for the creek. Bring lunch and snacks for a full day out. Min. 2 Lt Water, sun and insect protection and a torch. If you are not experienced at rock hopping in wet conditions, this walk is not for you. Bring a change of clothes for the end of the walk, we can drive the short distance to Cedar Flats Picnic Area to change if needed. We should finish mid afternoon, but this is only a guide, the day depends on how well the group is managing.

What to Bring:

A waterproof bag for your pack! This walk involves swim-thrus to complete the circuit.

Wear good sandals or sandshoes for the creek.

Lunch and smoko and 2L of water.

Sun and insect protection. Personal medication. Snake bandage (club policy). Bring a change of clothes for the end of the walk

Car-pooling driver compensation: $50/ vehicle indicative cost to be shared by the passengers for the return journey.
