Hodgson Vale Walk & BBQ
Come and enjoy a late afternoon walk and BBQ at Hodgson Vale.
Meet at my place, 4 Derry Place Hodgson Vale @ 4pm.
Follow Google Maps, or head south on Ruthven St/New England Highway until you reach the Lion’s Park, then turn left into Mally Rd. First right into Windermere Dr. Second left into Jackson Close. First right into Derry Place – which is a small laneway that looks deceptively like a driveway and is easily missed. We’re then first on the right. Park anywhere on our driveway, lawn or road verges.
Weather permitting we’ll ascend Preston Hill on a circuit of about 4.5km (with possible extra diversion if everyone's keen). Grade S34 including a short but steep ascent on a dirt track with some loose stones. An elevation gain of about 207m will aid your New Year’s fitness goals, but we’ll pace ourselves and have a rest at the top.
Rain is predicted for the week ahead of the walk, so I’ll assess conditions on the day. If it’s too wet or muddy we may revert to a suburban loop exploring various picturesque pathways throughout our suburb. Register on the Member Jungle app to receive updates.
Well behaved dogs are welcome with caveats: * 2/3 of the walk is within suburbia which includes cars and fenced dogs. * The climb up the hill is steep with some loose stones. * If staying for the BBQ we have two friendly border collies which get on OK with other dogs of similar temperament.
Bring drinks and whatever you’d like to cook on the BBQ (or dish to reheat in oven or microwave), plus something to share (either an appetizer, salad, or dessert). We have plates, cutlery, cups and chairs so no need to bring other things. If only wanting to come for dinner, we should be cooking by 6pm at the latest.
I look forward to your company in the southern foothills of the Toowoomba plateau.
PS Loretta will be away, so I’ll be your second-best stand-in host for the evening!
