If you've never walked in Mount Peel Bushland Park, you're in for a treat! It's so close to Toowoomba, it has fabulous views, lots of kangaroos, and if we're lucky, koalas. I intend to walk up at least three, maybe four of the small hills which all have excellent vantage points over the countryside. You can see for miles. Hopefully starting so late in the day, we'll have a cool breeze and can experience an amazing sunset from one of the hilltops.
The walk will involve a combination of new council walking tracks and gravel fire trails. Some tracks are overgrown with long grass and weeds. I'd recommend long pants and gators to avoid getting lots of prickles in your socks. The gravel roads can be a little slippery in the steep stretches. I'm bringing my walking pole.
(If using the website, scroll down to Document 1, to view Council's Map).
Walk Grading: S33 (Short / Graded tracks / Medium fitness)
There are many hills on this walk, but we'll be walking at a slow pace and can take a few breathers.
Expect to walk the final leg back to the cars in the dark. Be prepared with a working torch or, even better, a headtorch. Walking in the dark can be exhilarating!
What to Bring:
Wear boots or sneakers with grip. Gators recommended. Light snacks and 1L of water or fluids. Torch. Walking poles. Insect repellent. First aid kit. Personal medication. Snake bandage (club policy).
Afterwards:
There's the option of grabbing a quick bite to eat afterwards at:
Oporto (Portuguese Chicken) at cnr of Anzac Ave & Devine Street, Harristown (Open till 10pm)
https://www.oporto.com.au/menu They have a range of burgers, wraps, salads etc.
Please register through Member Jungle or give me a call to discuss anything further.
Thanks, Monica
